General Audition Information
All roles, unless otherwise announced, are open. SCT encourages anyone who is interested to audition and is always eager to welcome new faces and fresh talent to its stage. Except as specifically required by the author for certain roles, the SCT policy is to cast regardless of color, race or disability. All auditions for our productions are posted on our website. A complete breakdown of audition requirements and available roles are posted nearer to the date of each audition. If, after open auditions, the director believes that a particular role or roles cannot be cast, additional actors may be contacted and/or further auditions may be held as required. Being invited to audition, either directly or indirectly, does not guarantee a role. In the event an actor cannot attend regular auditions, s/he may audition at a pre-arranged time at the director’s discretion. Callbacks will be held if necessary. Not being called back does not mean that auditionees are not cast in the show. Likewise, being called back does not mean they will be cast. Springfield Contemporary Theatre is a non-profit, non-Equity volunteer theatre company. We do utilize some guest professionals throughout the season. If you are an Equity actor, you are welcome to attend any of our auditions; we just ask that you note on our audition form that you are a member of AEA. For most productions, scripts are available for check-out a couple weeks before auditions. We do ask that anyone checking out a script leave a $10 deposit with the box office that will be refunded with the script is returned. We ask that scripts be returned prior to the first day of auditions. Please note that by auditioning, you are obligating yourself to a considerable rehearsal and performance process. Please be certain that you are willing and able to make this commitment. Directors wait to finalize the rehearsal schedule until after the cast has been chosen. Most shows rehearse four or five days a week, with rehearsals lasting two to four hours. The days depend on the individual director’s schedule and cast availability, but mostly are week nights and weekends. Rehearsals are more frequent closer to the opening of the show. The average rehearsal period is four to six weeks before the show opens. Musicals typically have a longer rehearsal time than non-musicals.
