Why is SCT pausing operations?

This decision comes after years of increasing challenges, financial and organizational, that made it difficult to sustain the work at the level of excellence our mission demands. Despite passionate efforts from our staff, artists, and board, it became clear that continuing operations was no longer viable at this time.

Is this permanent?

Not necessarily. We’re calling this a pause because we’re leaving the door open for the future. If the right circumstances and resources, align, it’s possible SCT could return in a new form, but there is no timeline or active plan in place at this moment.

I am a flex pass holder, or I already bought tickets for the 30th season, what happens now?

If you recently purchased a season ticket for the 30th season, you have received a refund. Flex pass holders will be contacted directly in the next few weeks.

What happens to the Historic Fox Theatre?

SCT was a tenant in the Historic Fox Theatre, but we do not own the building. Future programming in that space will be determined by the building’s owner and other partners.

Why announce the 30th season if this was on the table?

At the time of the announcement, we were moving forward and intended to produce the season. The decision to cancel the season was not taken lightly, and we share your disappointment.

Will SCT’s past productions or archives still be available?

We are working on ways to preserve SCT’s legacy digitally. Photos and highlights from past seasons will continue to live online as a tribute to the incredible work of our artists and community.

Right now, the best way to honor SCT is to keep showing up for local theatre. Support other performing arts groups in Springfield. Tell their stories. Fill their seats. And keep believing in the power of live performance to connect and inspire.

What happens to the staff and leadership?

SCT’s core staff has been informed of the decision and supported through the transition. This has been an emotional and difficult time for the team, and we’re incredibly grateful for their dedication and care.
