SUPPORT

Springfield Contemporary Theatre is proudly entering its 30th season—a milestone that celebrates not just our history, but the relationships that have made it all possible.

This year, we’re reflecting on the connections that shape our work: between artists and audiences, volunteers and staff, neighbors and communities. Our 30th season is built around the power of those relationships—messy, joyful, complicated, and deeply human.

With an energized board, new staff collaborating alongside longtime SCT artists and supporters, and a lineup of productions that invite you to think, feel, and engage, this is a season made for meaningful connection.

The ongoing dedication of our performers, directors, musicians, technicians, volunteers, and staff is matched only by the incredible generosity of our patrons. Your enthusiasm and support are what make it possible for SCT to thrive as a theatre created by the community, for the community.

We’re also looking ahead. One of our final goals is to retire the $50,000 COVID relief loan from the Community Foundation of the Ozarks. Once paid, SCT will be fully and proudly debt-free—ready for the next 30 years of bold, relationship-driven theatre.

We invite you to contribute to this season of connection, celebration, and momentum. Your support will help us move into the future with strength, purpose, and a deepened commitment to our community.

Let’s keep building this space where creativity and community shine—and thrive.

SCT Endowment Fund

In December 2021, Springfield Contemporary Theatre received the generous gift of a secure future when Maggie Wilcox, SCT Board Member, established the SCT Endowment Fund. The Endowment Fund is established through the Community Foundation of the Ozarks.

An Endowment Fund is an important step for any non-profit in establishing the organization's fiscal health and longevity. Springfield Contemporary Theatre has spent 2022 fulfilling many of its pandemic promises: growing the organization with a new Board of Directors, continued efforts towards and strategic planning and a permanent home, more paid opportunities for artists at SCT and returning to uninterrupted premiere, immersive, grown-up theatre. There are several ways to support the SCT Endowment Fund, whether through a one time, recurring, end of year or legacy gift.

Robert Bradley Memorial Fund

On Thursday, October 6, 2022, we lost a bedrock member of the SCT team. Robert “Bob” Bradley will be remembered as an outstanding educator, theatrical director, mentor, artist, storyteller, colleague, and friend. Following his 39-year career as professor of theatre and department head for the Department of Theatre and Dance at Missouri State University, Bob found his artistic home at SCT directing 34 productions since 2003 in his “retirement.”

With SCT Bob helmed productions including Sense & Sensibility, Oppenheimer, Mrs. Warren’s Profession, Chesapeake, HIR, Other Desert Cities, The Normal Heart, The Threepenny Opera, The Tempest, Saving Rose O’Neill, Bus Stop, Morning’s at Seven, Sing for Your Supper, A Holiday Carol, 33 Variations, Glengarry Glen Ross, Educating Rita, Amadeus, The Secret Garden, The Light in the Piazza, All My Sons, Dinner with Friends, Edward Albee’s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris, Frozen, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Nine: The Musical, Man of La Mancha, Edward Albee’s The Goat Or, Who is Sylvia?, Master Class, Edward Albee’s Three Tall Women, A Grand Night for Singing and Berlin to Broadway with Kurt Weill.

Longtime friend and former Tent Theatre alumnus, Maggie Wilcox has established a memorial fund in Bob’s honor with contributions going into SCT’s building fund. One of Bob’s main recent priorities with SCT was finding a long-term sustainable home for the organization. In the theatre’s future home, a prominent acknowledgment will be displayed.

Joe Bowman Memorial Fund

On Sunday, September 29, 2024, we lost a cherished member of our SCT family. Joe Bowman was a strong presence as an early Resident Director and actor during SCT’s early days at the Vandivort Center Theatre.

Over the years Joe also directed productions for Springfield Little Theatre, Tent Theatre, Missouri State University as well as with theatres in New York, Connecticut and at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland. Joe also was an instructor at MSU and OTC. For SCT, Joe directed productions of Jeffrey, Burn This, How I Learned to Drive, Five Women Wearing the Same Dress, Shakespeare’s R&J, Vanities, Oleanna, P.S. Your Cat is Dead, The All Night Strut, The Lion in Winter, Crimes of the Heart, Putting It Together, Proof, Wit, The Owl and the Pussycat, Showtune, Bent, Jacob Marley’s Christmas Carol, Seascape with Shark and Dancer, and The Gingerbread Lady. Joe also appeared on stage as Henry II in The Lion in Winter and as Andrew Jorgenson in Other People’s Money. Our heart goes to Leslie Ballew, Joe’s daughter, and a regular actress in many of his productions.

In coordination with Joe's family, SCT has established The Joe Bowman Memorial Fund in his honor to support the furtherance of SCT’s team of Resident Directors.

James Billings Memorial Fund

On Thursday, February 3, 2022, we lost a dear member of our SCT family. James "Jim" Billings was a recognized singer, actor, director, writer and long time collaborator with Springfield Contemporary Theatre.

Besides appearing on stage in SCT's production of Terrance McNally's Master Class (2004), Springfield Contemporary Theatre produced several of Jim’s original operas and musicals: The Magical Adventures of Jack McPoorly-Or-Climb Every Beanstalk (1998), The Nutley Papers—The Musical (2001, world premiere), Babes in the Woods (2005, world premiere in association with Springfield Regional Opera), Sheer Will (2011, world premiere), and Jim’s always erudite and hilarious Forbidden Opera for First Night Springfield (1990-1996, 2010, in association with Springfield Regional Opera).

In coordination with Robert Bradley & Jim's family, Springfield Contemporary Theatre has established a memorial fund in his honor -contributions will go into SCT's building fund. In the lobby of the theatre's future home an acknowledgment will be displayed.

SCT Resident Director and Board Member, Robert Bradley, has posted a remembrance of James Billings.
